Tragic, Fatal Pedestrian Accident Reported on U.S. 19 in Palmetto, Florida

PALMETTO, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, a fatal pedestrian accident was reported as occurring on U.S. Highway 19 in Palmetto, Florida. Fox 13 reports that two people were tragically killed in the accident, including a teenager. A third person was injured in the accident, and the driver who hit them left the scene of the collision.*

The accident happened during the overnight hours by 49th Street East on U.S. 19. Florida Highway Patrol and Fox 13 report that around 2:30 a.m., three people were walking in the grassy shoulder of U.S. 19 on the southbound side of the roadway. It is not clear what direction they were walking in at the time. 

Near 49th Street, Troopers say a pickup truck struck the three people. Troopers believe the driver of the truck veered from the road and hit the pedestrians. The driver then did not stop but fled from the scene of the crash. 

Fox 13 reports that two of the pedestrians were tragically killed in the accident. One was identified as a 47-year-old man, and the other was identified as a 13-year-old boy. Their cities of residence were not included in the news report. Fox 13 further reports that a third person was injured in the accident. She was identified as a 40-year-old woman. She was reportedly transported to Blake Medical Center and is in critical condition. 

No information about the driver was included in the news report. Troopers believe that the truck is a white Chevrolet Silverado. It was last seen heading south on U.S. 19. 

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident and has not yet made an arrest in the case. Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the truck or the driver is asked to contact Troopers as soon as possible.
