Messy Accident Involving Two Tractor-Trailers and One Passenger Vehicle Takes Hours to Clean Up

August 20, 2019

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL – As reported in an online news article published by, a multi-vehicle accident involving 2 tractor-trailers and 1 passenger vehicle took hours to clean up, but the cause of the accident is currently known.*

According to a Florida highway official, a multi-vehicle accident on the Florida Turnpike involving 2 tractor-trailers and 1 passenger vehicle left a very messy crash scene and took crews hours to clean up.  The accident happened in the early morning, and an officer with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) states the cause of the accident is unknown.

The officer goes on to state that the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike remained closed just south of State Road 70 near Fort Pierce.  The lane closure was necessary to provide clean-up crews enough room and time to remove all vehicles and debris from the crash site. Crews were tasked with removing the wreckage of a tanker-trailer hauling 78,000 pounds of water, and a tractor-trailer hauling 23,000 pounds of meat.

The passenger vehicle involved in the accident, a Hyundai, did not require towing. Additionally, reports indicate that neither driver of the trucks nor the driver of the Hyundai sustained injuries in the accident.

It is unclear how fast each of the vehicles was traveling at the time of the accident. It is also unclear whether the drivers of the trucks or the driver of the Hyundai committed any other traffic violations, such as failure to yield, failure to signal, and distracted driving, among others.

While the accident did not result in any significant traffic disturbances on the Florida Turnpike, it took until the afternoon to clean up the aftermath of the multi-vehicle accident.  Because a cause of the accident is currently unknown, there are no criminal charges pending against any driver involved in the accident.
