Single-Vehicle Crash on I-75 in North Port, Florida, Leaves Two Seriously Injured

NORTH PORT, FL. – According to an online news story reported by, a crash that happened on Interstate 75 in North Port, Florida, left two people with serious injuries. Authorities are looking into the circumstances of the accident and trying to ascertain what led to the crash.*

The crash took place in the afternoon by mile marker 172 on the southbound side of I-75. Florida Highway Patrol and WWSB report that at about 1:30 p.m., a 1999 Ford vehicle was traveling south on the interstate and somehow left the roadway on the right, by the exit to Kings Highway. The model of the Ford was not reported. The Ford ended up striking a right-side guardrail on the interstate, then rotating and hitting the guardrail a second time. 

Troopers are not certain at this time what led to the accident. No other vehicles were involved. The news report says that the driver of the Ford lost control of the vehicle, but no potential reasons for the driver’s loss of control were reported. No information about the events preceding the Ford’s departure from the lane of travel was included in the news story.

WWSB reports that the driver of the Ford and a passenger in the Ford were pulled from the wrecked vehicle by firefighters. The report states that the driver was injured in the accident and transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was identified as a 32-year-old man from North Port. His injuries were said to be critical. 

WWSB further reports that the passenger was also injured and taken to Lee County Memorial for treatment. He was identified as a 27-year-old man from North Port. His injuries were also described as critical. Current medical conditions of the men were not reported. 

Florida Highway Patrol is still in the process of investigating.
