Two Tragically Killed in Head-On Collision on East Main St. in Lakeland, Florida

LAKELAND, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, two people were tragically killed in a head-on vehicle collision that happened on East Main Street in Lakeland, Florida. Authorities are investigating the case and say that the drivers of both vehicles were the victims of the crash.* 

The accident occurred during the late afternoon near the crossing of East Main Street with Reynolds Road. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and ABC report that at about 4:30 p.m., a Ford Focus was traveling east on Main Street. At the same time, a Subaru Forester was traveling west on the same roadway. Deputies say that close to the intersection, the Ford crossed over the centerline of the road and struck the Subaru head-on. 

The cause of the accident is not clear at this time. Deputies have not yet identified any potential reasons why the driver of the Ford left his lane of travel and entered the path of oncoming traffic. It is not clear what factors or circumstances might have contributed to the accident. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. 

ABC reports that the driver of the Subaru was tragically killed in the accident. He was identified as a 40-year-old man. His city of residence was not included in the report. ABC further reports that the driver of the Ford was also tragically killed in the crash. He was identified as a 64-year-old man. His city of residence was also not included in the report. Passengers were not in either vehicle, the report says. 

Following the accident, Main Street was closed down in the area of Reynolds Road. The closure remained in effect for about four hours, according to the report, during which time the Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigated at the scene. Deputies are still investigating at this time.
