One Person is Dead and Another Injured in Goshen Accident Involving an SUV and Garbage Truck

GOSHEN, NEW YORK – According to an online news article published by, one person is dead and another injured following an accident involving an SUV and garbage truck.*

New York State Police are investigating an accident involving an SUV and garbage truck that caused one person’s death and injuries to another person.  The early afternoon accident happened at the intersection of Pumpkin Swamp Road and Pulaski Highway in Goshen.

Police state that a 2018 Ford Edge, driven by an 80-year-old Crestwood man, was attempting to make a left turn onto Pulaski Highway after being stopped at a stop sign on Pumpkin Swamp Road.  As the man was turning left, he was struck by a garbage truck.  The Crestwood man’s 76-year-old wife was in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident.

Reports indicate that a 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, operating as a garbage truck and driven by a 47-year-old Youngsville man, was traveling north on Pulaski Road.  As the garbage truck began driving through the intersection of Pumpkin Swamp Road, the 2018 Ford Edge pulled out in front of him, attempting to turn left onto southbound Pulaski Road.  The collision caused the garbage truck to overturn. 

The 80-year-old Crestwood man was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.  His 76-year-old wife was transported by air to Westchester Medical Center and is currently in critical condition.  The garbage truck driver did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

The New York State Police and Town of Goshen Police responded to the scene of the accident and were assisted by the Village of Florida Police Department, Village of Florida Fire Department, the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Mobile Life to assess the accident and transport the injured victims to area hospitals. Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the crash.
