Former North Carolina State Trooper Tragically Dies in Fatal Duplin County Accident

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC -  According to an online news report at,a former trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was tragically killed in a tragic accident that occurred over the weekend.*

A former North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer passed away in a fatal vehicular accident on North Carolina Highway 903 at Old Camp Road located westerly of Magnolia.  The accident occurred in the early morning hours.   

The driver of the vehicle, a man aged 32 from Wallace, North Carolina, was operating a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire.  His stepfather, the trooper who was aged 46 of Georgia, was a passenger in the Pontiac.  The driver of the Pontiac ran a stop sign while headed northbound on Old Camp Road.  The trooper, who was employed by the North Carolina Highway Patrol from 2001 to 2012, perished at the scene of the accident.  The driver sustained serious injuries and as a result, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.  

The driver of the second vehicle was a man, aged 38, from Magnolia, North Carolina.  He was operating a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck at the time of the accident. He was headed westbound on North Carolina Highway 903.  

Upon impact, both of the vehicles involved in the accident veered off of the road and flipped over.  The driver of the second vehicle was treated by medical personnel and later released from an area hospital.   The driver of the first vehicle where the trooper was a passenger is facing misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charges.  

It appears that drugs and alcohol use were not factors in causing the accident and that all three individuals involved in the crash were wearing their seatbelts.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
