Additional Information Released on One of Two Accidents that Occurred Late Last Week

August 14, 2019

MARIETTA, GA – According to an online news report at 11alive.com, the Marietta Police are urging drivers to slow down, given two serious and deadly accidents that occurred late last week.*

A 24-year-old individual is being treated at an area hospital for life threatening injuries following a motorcycle accident that occurred in the mid-afternoon late last week.  According to the Marietta Police, they were dispatched to Fairground Street located southbound of Roswell Street where they came upon the motorcyclist who had recently went across the intersection. Police report that a 2006 Ford E350 van was driven by a 28-year-old man who was exiting a private drive and went in front of the man’s motorcycle, which ended up causing a collision.  The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries as a result of the impact of the crash.

About less than an hour later, the Marietta Police were dispatched to the scene of a second serious accident that occurred on Cobb Parkway South right before Airport Industrial Park Drive.  The accident involved a 2016 Ford Focus that veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into a flatbed wrecker.  It is not known why the Ford Focus veered over into the opposite lane of traffic.

The operator of the 2016 Ford Focus was a 71-year-old man from Marietta, Georgia. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The two accidents resulted in major traffic backups during the evening rush hour. The accident to the Marietta Police Department represented far more than a slow commute.  On social media, the police urged drivers to slow down. "Please Marietta, slow down, focus on the road and arrive alive," the department wrote on Twitter.

There are no further details on the accidents at this time.  The accidents remain under investigation by the local police.
