College Student Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Carroll County, Georgia

CARROLL COUNTY, GA -  According to an online news report at wsbtv.com, a student at the University of West Georgia was hurt in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in serious injuries.  The individual who hit here was in a pickup truck.  They failed to slow down while the victim was in a crosswalk.*

A college student was struck and injured in a hit-and-run accident.  The accident occurred late last week at the intersection of South Street and Maple Street. The victim, a 22-year-old woman, sustained broken bones in her legs.  The woman was walking back from a friend’s house going toward the University of West Georgia campus when she was struck by the hit-and-run driver.  

Eyewitnesses ran to the aid of the aid of the woman.  "If it wasn't for them, who knows because her first instinct was: 'Oh my God! There's more cars coming!'" the woman’s stepmother aid.

According to footage from a surveillance camera, the woman was in a crosswalk when she was hit.  The driver of the truck who hit her did not slow down. "For someone to do this? It's just sad that people in this world don't think a human life is important," the woman’s stepmother stated.  

The woman who was hit did not see the car coming.  "Once I thought there was no car, I didn't see any more car. I started crossing it, and then it happened," the victim stated.

The victim does not want the individual who caused her injuries to get away with it.   She expressed that she wasn’t angry but scared.  She wants the hit-and-run driver to be found and face justice.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.  Police are asking anyone who recognizes the car, described as possibly a second-generation Toyota Tacoma 2005-2015, to contact police at 770-834-4451.
