Serious Vehicle Crash Reported on S.R. 24 in Alachua County, Florida

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news story reported at, a serious vehicle crash was reported as happening on State Road 24 in Alachua County, Florida. One person was tragically killed in the wreck, and three other people sustained serious injuries, according to the news report.* 

The wreck happened in the evening at an unnamed location on State Road 24. A highway mile marker or intersection was not provided in the report, so the specific site of the accident is unclear. Florida Highway Patrol and WCTV report that at about 8:15 p.m., a Honda (model not reported) was traveling west on the roadway and somehow crossed over the centerline of State Road 24. Troopers say the Honda drove into the opposite lane of travel and crashed head-on into a Jeep (model not reported) that had been traveling eastbound. 

Following the crash, the Honda spun around and collided with a third vehicle. No description of the third vehicle was reported. It is not clear at this time what led to the Honda driver leaving the westbound lane of travel. No potential contributing factors have been identified by investigators at the current time.

WCTV reports that the driver of the Jeep was tragically killed in the accident. This person’s identifying information has not yet been released, as Troopers say that next-of-kin has not been notified of the accident. 

WCTV further reports that the driver of the Honda and two people in the third vehicle were injured in the accident and taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Their injuries were said to be serious in nature. None of the three injured persons was identified in the report. 

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the accident. Troopers have not yet indicated whether the Honda driver will be charged in connection with the crash.
