15-year-old Girl is Tragically Killed at Intersection of Highway 98 and State Road 65 in Florida
FRANKLIN COUNTY, FL – According to an online news report at tallahassee.com, a 15-year-old girl from Eastpoint, Florida died in a multi-vehicle accident earlier this week when her sports utility vehicle slammed into a dump truck and became engulfed in flames.*
The accident happened in the late afternoon at the intersection of United States Highway 98 and State Road 65. Per the Florida Highway Patrol, the teenage driver was going southbound on State Road 65 and attempted to make a left turn on United States Highway where she did not yield to an oncoming dump truck going westbound.
The dump truck struck the driver’s side of the vehicle driven by the teenager, which was a Toyota Rav4. The two vehicles, following the initial crash, slammed into a Ford F-250 that was attempting to turn onto State Road 65, which caused the vehicle to spin counterclockwise. While spinning, the Ford-250 hit into the front of a Land Rover behind the Ford in the turn lane of United States Highway 98.
The Land Rover, following the crash, hit into a tree. The dump truck rolled over on the driver’s side and the 15-year-old’s Toyota, as a result, became engulfed in flames. The Franklin County Fire Rescue was able to put out the fire however, the teenager died at the scene of the crash.
The drivers of the Ford-250 and the Land Rover, both from Tallahassee, Florida, received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the dump truck, a 52-year old, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
There are no further details on the crash at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
