Car Fatally Hits Woman on U.S. 41 in Sarasota, Florida

SARASOTA, FL. – According to a news report published online at, a car fatally hit a woman on U.S. Highway 41 in Sarasota, Florida. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the collision, and at the time of the report’s publishing, Troopers had not confirmed whether charges would or would not be filed in the case.*

The collision took place in the late afternoon by the intersection of Myakka Drive and U.S. 41. Florida Highway Patrol and WWSB report that at about 4 p.m., a pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway, walking in the direction of west to east. As the pedestrian entered the southbound lanes of the highway, a passing vehicle hit her, according to Troopers. 

The make and model of the vehicle were not reported, and it was described only as a car. Troopers said that the pedestrian did not see the car but did not say whether the driver of the car saw the pedestrian. The collision happened just north of the intersection and close to River Road. It is not clear what potential contributing factors authorities might be investigating in reviewing the accident. 

WWSB reports that the pedestrian tragically died from her injuries. She was identified as an 82-year-old woman from Venice, Florida. 

The driver of the car was identified as a 36-year-old male from North Port, Florida. The report does not say whether he was injured or whether any passengers were riding in the car with him when the crash took place. No other injuries were reported in the story. 

The collision resulted in a closure of part of U.S. 41 for about three hours. During this time, crews worked at the scene to investigate. Investigation is still ongoing by Florida Highway Patrol. No charges have been announced at this time, and no further information has been reported.
