Multiple Injuries Reported After Vehicle Accident on Mathews Bridge in Jacksonville, Florida

JACKSONVILLE, FL. – According to an online news report published at firstcoastnews.com, multiple injuries were reported after a traffic accident that happened on the Mathews Bridge in Jacksonville, Florida. Limited information about the accident has so far been released, and authorities are still in the process of investigating.*

The accident happened sometime in the late afternoon on the westbound side of the Mathews Bridge. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and First Coast News report that around 5 p.m., several vehicles crashed into each other on the bridge. The exact location on the bridge is unclear. The makes and models of the vehicles were not reported, and they were not described in the story. It is not clear how many vehicles in total collided. 

Officials reported that multiple people were injured after the accident, and one person was trapped inside a vehicle. Firefighters at the scene worked to extricate this person, and all injured persons were reportedly taken to local hospitals for treatment. The number and extent of injuries was not reported, and no current medical conditions were provided. No one involved in the accident was identified, and authorities did not say how many people were riding in the vehicles when the accident happened. 

The news report says that the accident resulted in traffic delays in the area while crews worked at the scene. Shortly before 6 p.m., Jacksonville Fire and Rescue posted a message on social media saying that its team was almost finished clearing the scene, and it would be leaving the site of the crash with sheriff’s officers. 

Authorities are still investigating the accident, and at this time, no information regarding the cause has been reported. It is unclear how or why the vehicles came to collide. Officials should be releasing additional information regarding the investigation at a later time.
