Couple Causes Deadly Crash on S.R. 54 in Pasco County, Florida, Flees in Carjacked Vehicle

PASCO COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at, a couple caused a deadly vehicle crash on State Road 54 in Pasco County, Florida, then committed a carjacking and fled the scene. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reports that one of the suspects has been apprehended, and the other is still at-large.* 

The events of the incident began at about 7:30 a.m. at the crossing of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and State Road 54. Authorities and WFLA state that a vehicle ran through a red light at the intersection and crashed into three other vehicles. 

After the collision, a man and a woman who had been riding in the vehicle exited and ran away on foot. Authorities say the couple ran across State Road 54 to the Wawa gas station and stole a 2002 Saturn from its owner. The two then drove away in the carjacked vehicle. 

WFLA reports that one of the three vehicles involved in the crash at the intersection was a motorcycle, and the person riding on the motorcycle tragically died from his injuries. He was taken to Advent Health Hospital after the crash. Officials identified him as a 26-year-old man.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol began immediately searching for the carjacked vehicle and the two suspects. Troopers say that not long after the incident, deputies found the Saturn stopped in a ditch by Knights Griffin Road and Strauss Road, having crashed into a mailbox. Deputies then placed the female suspect, who was still with the car, under arrest. She was identified as a 23-year-old woman from Dade City, Florida.

Authorities are still looking for the male suspect, whom they believe ran into the woods near where the Saturn crashed. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Florida Highway Patrol.
