Teenager Tragically Killed in Four-Vehicle Wreck on U.S. 98 in Franklin County, Florida

August 11, 2019

FRANKLIN COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story reported online at wctv.tv, a teenager was tragically killed in a four-vehicle wreck that happened on U.S. Highway 98 in Franklin County, Florida. Authorities believe from initial investigation that a failure to yield during a left turn caused the first collision and the chain of events that followed.*

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 98 and State Road 65. Florida Highway Patrol and WCTV report that a Toyota SUV (model not reported) was traveling south on State Road 65, while a dump truck was traveling west on U.S. 98. At the intersection, the Toyota driver attempted to make a left turn, and Troopers say the driver did not yield to the dump truck. The Toyota entered the intersection and collided with the dump truck.

Following the impact, the dump truck pushed the Toyota toward the eastbound lanes of U.S. 98, and both of the vehicles crashed into a Ford (model not reported) that was headed east on the highway. The Ford then spun around and collided with a Landrover (model not reported) that was also headed east. Upon coming to a rest, the Toyota burst into flames, according to the report.

WCTV reports that emergency crews rushed to extinguish the fire, but the driver of the Toyota tragically died at the scene. The driver was identified as being 15 years old, but no other identifying information was reported.

The drivers of the other three vehicles were also not identified, and the report does not say if anyone in these vehicles was injured. The report also does not say with what company the dump truck is affiliated.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, and at the time that the WCTV report was posted online, no additional information had been released to the public.
