Woman Tragically Killed in Collision on U.S. 84 in Monroe County, Alabama
MONROE COUNTY, AL. – According to an online news story published at wkrg.com, a woman was tragically killed in a collision that happened on U.S. Highway 84 in Monroe County, Alabama. Authorities say that the woman had run off the road and was trying to flag someone down for help, when she was hit by a passing vehicle.*
The accident took place late in the evening at mile marker 81.7 on U.S. 84. Alabama State Troopers and WKRG report that at about 9 p.m., a woman was driving down the highway and somehow ran off the road and traveled down an embankment. It is not clear what type of vehicle she was driving or how she ended up leaving the roadway.
It is unclear from the report if she was injured in this collision, but she reportedly got out of her vehicle and walked back up to the road to try to flag down a passerby for help. Troopers say that was when she was struck by a vehicle. The collision happened about five miles outside of Monroeville, Alabama. No information about the other vehicle was reported, other than to say it was a car.
WKRG reports that the woman tragically died from her injuries. She was identified as an 18-year-old woman from Evergreen, Alabama. It appears from the report that she was alone in her vehicle when she ran off the road.
The driver of the other car was not identified in the news report, but the report indicates that he or she was not injured. It is unclear if the driver was the only person in this car when the accident happened.
Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate the accident. At the time that the WKRG report was published, they had not said whether charges might be filed in the case.
