Pedestrian Tragically Killed in Accident on E.E. Butler Pkwy in Gainesville, Georgia

GAINESVILLE, GA. – According to an online news report published at, a pedestrian was tragically killed in a traffic accident that happened on E.E. Butler Parkway in Gainesville, Georgia. The victim has not yet been identified, and police officers investigating the case say that charges are not anticipated.* 

The accident occurred during the evening at the intersection of College Avenue and E.E. Butler Parkway. The Gainesville Police Department and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that at about 8:45 p.m., a pedestrian was walking in the area and was struck by a Toyota Camry. Officers said that the pedestrian had stepped into the roadway before the collision took place. 

It is not clear what direction the Toyota had been traveling at the time of the incident, and officers did not say where the pedestrian was walking. It is unclear if the pedestrian was trying to cross the roadway or if he stepped into the road for another reason. The report does not say whether a crosswalk is located at the intersection.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that emergency responders took the pedestrian to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and he tragically died at the hospital. No identifying information about the victim was reported, including his age or location of residence. He was identified only as a male. 

The driver of the Toyota was identified as being 17 years old. The report did not say whether anyone besides the driver was riding in the car at the time of the accident and did not indicate if anyone in the car was injured in the collision. Sgt. Justin Martin with the Gainesville Police Department said that charges were not expected to be filed against the Toyota driver. 

Gainesville Police are still investigating the accident, and officers ask anyone with information to contact the department by calling (770) 534-5252.
