Car is Torn in Half During Fatal Escambia County Traffic Accident

August 05, 2019

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – According to an online news article published by, 2 people were killed and 3 others injured in a catastrophic accident that left one vehicle torn in half, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.*

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an afternoon accident at the intersection of Pine Forest Road and Wilde Lake Boulevard in Escambia County left two people dead, and 3 others with serious injuries.  The accident happened when a 2010 Dodge Charger and a 2011 Toyota minivan collided, sending the Charger into a traffic light pole.

The Florida Highway Patrol states that the Charger was traveling northbound on Pine Forest Road at a high rate of speed when the Toyota minivan, attempting to make a left turn from southbound Pine Forest Road onto Interstate 10, struck the left side of the Charger.  The impact of the collision caused the Charger to rotate counterclockwise and strike a traffic light pole, and subsequently split in half and eject the driver from the vehicle.  Following the impact with the Charger, the Toyota minivan came to a rest in the intersection facing northwest.

The 51-year-old Pensacola man driving the Charger as well as his 33-year-old passenger, also from Pensacola, were killed in the accident.  The driver of the Toyota minivan, a Cantonment woman, and two child passengers, aged 4 and 8, sustained serious injuries in the accident and were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, and no cause or determination of fault has been made at this time.  However, given what authorities have learned about the accident, speed was likely a contributing factor, especially because the Charger split in half and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
