ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report posted at wwmt.com, a driver and passenger were tragically killed in a vehicle wreck that happened on Pine Forest Road in Escambia County, Florida. Three other people were injured in the crash, according to the report, including two children. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.*
The accident happened during the afternoon at the crossing of Pine Forest Road with Wilde Lake Boulevard. Florida Highway Patrol and WWMT report that at approximately 2:30 p.m., a 2010 Dodge Charger was traveling northbound on Pine Forest Road. Troopers said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2011 Toyota van (model not reported) was traveling southbound on the roadway.
At the entrance to Interstate 10 near Wilde Lake Boulevard, the van attempted to make a left turn, and Troopers say the Dodge drove into the path of the van. The front of the Dodge then hit the driver’s side of the van, resulting in the Dodge rotating and crashing into a traffic signal pole. The impact caused the Dodge to split in half, authorities said. The Dodge thereafter spun again and hit a traffic light.
WWMT report that the driver of the Dodge was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and tragically died at the scene. He was identified as a 51-year-old man from Pensacola, Florida. WWMT further reports that the passenger in the Dodge was also tragically killed in the accident. She was identified as a 33-year-old woman from Pensacola.
In addition, WWMT states that the driver of the van and two juvenile passengers, ages 4 and 8, were injured in the crash and taken to Sacred Heart Hospital. The driver was identified as an 81-year-old woman from Cantonment, Florida. All three are said to be in serious condition.
