Motorcyclist Dies in Collision on a Nashville, Tennessee Highway
NASHVILLE, TN – According to an online news report at oakridger.com, a motorcyclist died and a driver is in custody following an accident on a Nashville Highway.*
According to a lieutenant with the Columbia Police Department, it confirmed that a three-vehicle accident in the 2300 block of United States Highway 31 resulted in the death of a motorcyclist over the weekend.
The 39-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The man who caused the crash was charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, per local police.
The accident remains under investigation by local police.
An eyewitness of the accident was on his way home from his farm in Columbia, Tennessee where he came upon the scene of the accident shortly after 9 p.m. He noted that the scene was “surreal.” The witness stated that “[w]e pulled up to a body. It was in the middle of the road.”
Local authorities and state troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) urge drivers to remain safe when behind the wheel. “We just want people to make a concerted effort to buckle up, stay off their phones and concentrate on the road,” a lieutenant said from the THP. The lieutenant notes that there are several effects of deadly accidents, which changes everything for a family.
The Maury County Fire Department made a similar statement earlier this year after responding to an accident that involved two vehicles in which a 2006 Chrysler was going southbound in the northerly lane of United States Highway 43 and hit into a Land Rover head-on.
“Please take the time to slow down, buckle up and avoid impaired driving,” the department said. “If you know of anyone who is going to choose to drink please educate them on the dangers of driving impaired and the terrible consequences that can result. Stay safe.”
