August 04, 2019

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TN. – According to an online news report posted at, a tractor-trailer crash that happened on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County, Tennessee, caused two fatalities. It appears that only one vehicle was involved, and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined by investigators.*

The accident happened near mile marker 335 on I-40. Tennessee Highway Patrol and 1057 News report that a tractor-trailer was traveling east on the interstate, when it somehow left the roadway and traveled into the median. The tractor-trailer then went through the median and entered into the westbound lanes of the interstate.

The vehicle continued on and crashed through a guardrail on the side of the westbound lanes. It then traveled down an embankment and hit multiple trees before finally coming to a stop. It is not clear what caused the tractor-trailer to initially veer out of its lane or why the vehicle kept traveling in a path off the roadway.

The news report did not provide any potential explanations for the incident. No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the accident. Investigation is ongoing.

1057 News reports that the driver of the tractor-trailer was tragically killed in the accident. He was identified as a 31-year-old man from Garden City, Kansas. In addition, 1057 News states that a passenger had been riding in the vehicle, and the passenger was also tragically killed in the collision. He was identified as a 39-year-old man from Branson, Missouri.

The report did not say what trucking company or carrier the two might have been working for at the time, if any. It also did not say if the driver owned the truck or if it was affiliated with a company. The collision reportedly caused a traffic backup that spanned back about 14 miles on the interstate.
