Boat Explosion on Pickwick Lake in Hardin County, Tennessee, Injures Four People

HARDIN COUNTY, TN. – According to a news report published online at, a boat explosion that occurred on Pickwick Lake in Hardin County, Tennessee, injured four people. The cause of the explosion is still not known, and the victims of the incident have not been identified by investigating officials.* 

The incident occurred during the late morning near a boat ramp at the Pickwick Landing State Park. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Local Memphis report that around 11:15 a.m., a boat that was less than a mile upstream from the ramp suddenly exploded. A detailed description of the boat involved was not provided in the report, but the story said the boat was a runabout.

The potential reasons for the explosion were not known at the time of the news report. It is not clear if explosive materials were on the boat or if a malfunction with the boat led to the explosion. Authorities did not say if the explosion was preceded by any type of crash. The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

Local Memphis reports that seven people were on the boat when the explosion occurred, and four of those people sustained injuries. Three of them were transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance, and one person was taken to a nearby trauma center by medical helicopter. The injured people, as well as the three other people on the boat, were not identified in the news report. Current medical conditions were also not reported in the story.

Authorities are still in the process of reviewing the case to understand what happened and what led to the explosion. It was not clear from the report what law enforcement agency would be handling the investigation. No further information about the investigation or the incident was included in the Local Memphis report.
