Pedestrian from Pensacola Tragically Struck and Killed in Accident

August 01, 2019

PENSACOLA, FL – According to an online news report at, a 48-year-old man from Pensacola, Florida was struck and killed by a pickup truck earlier this week.  The pedestrian was crossing Pine Forest Road close to West Nine Mile Road at the time of the accident.*

The identification of the man is being withheld pending notification to the victim’s next of kin. The pedestrian is reported as having “dashed” across Pine Forest Road into the lane of travel of a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck in the early morning hours, per a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pickup truck had been going southbound on Pine Forest Road while the pedestrian was traveling on the road’s eastbound shoulder before he decided to cross the road and onto the pickup truck’s lane of travel.  The driver of the pickup truck, a male aged 51 from Cantonment, Florida was not able to avoid the accident, causing the front part of the truck to strike the pedestrian.

As a result of the accident, the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.

With the weather warming up, it is more likely that pedestrians will be out and about.  With this being said, there are a number of causes of pedestrian accidents, the top three of which are as follows:

  • Distracted driving.  Drivers who are texting, eating, drinking, talking on their cellphones, fiddling with the GPS or radio or emailing are prone to hitting pedestrians due to their inattention to the road.

  • Speeding. Drivers who speed are often unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.  That is why it is crucial that drivers operate their vehicles at the set speed limit to avoid accidents.

  • Intoxication. Drivers who are intoxicated have impaired judgment, which often results in a serious and sometimes fatal collision.  Drivers are urged to avoid drinking and driving.  Take a taxi or have a designated driver to get you home safely.
