Man Attempting to Cross Interstate 20 Dies, Represents Fifth Pedestrian Death in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at, a man that died while attempting to across Interstate 20 following an accident is the fifth pedestrian to die on Cobb County roads this month.*

The pedestrian’s name will not be released until his identity has been confirmed by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to the police report, a man driving a black 2007 Land Rover going west on Interstate 20, located west of Factory Shoals Road, collided into the back of a white 2007 Freightliner 18-wheeler going westbound in the early morning hours.  After the accident, the police note that the driver of the Land rover pulled his vehicle over into the left emergency lane due to extensive damage to his vehicle. The driver of the Freightliner, a man aged 38, continued to drive to the Thornton Road exit where he turned around and went back to the accident site.

“The driver of the Land Rover exited the vehicle and attempted to cross I-20,” a Cobb police press release indicated. “He was struck by an unknown vehicle and then several additional vehicles.”

The driver of the Land Rover died as a  result of being struck by several oncoming vehicles. There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.  Police ask anyone with information on the accident to call them at 770-499-3987.

Four other pedestrians have died on Cobb County roads for July, per the local police.  A 41-year-old man from Marietta died in the early morning back in mid-July when he was struck by a 2018 Kia Forte while walking north in the travel lane of South Cobb Drive close to Beech Road in Fair Oaks, Georgia.   The driver of the Kia, a 27-year-old man, stayed at the scene of the accident and was not deemed at fault for the crash.  Another man, aged 50, also perished when he was struck by a vehicle on Cobb Parkway in Acworth.  

An additional person, a 57-year-old man from Marietta, Georgia was also hit by a vehicle while walking on Cobb Parkway in Marietta, Georgia. This accident remains under investigation. Lastly, a 58-year-old man perished after being hit by a vehicle that was crawling along the side of Smyrna Power Springs Road close to Timber Creek Lane in Smyrna, Georgia.  The driver who struck this man did not remain at the scene of the accident.  This crash remains under investigation by the local police.
