Driver Involved in Accident with Tractor-Trailer Sustains Fatal Injuries

COBB COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at, a driver who was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler was attempting to cross Interstate 20 when he was struck by a passing vehicle earlier this week, per the Cobb County police.*

The crash caused the shutdown of the westerly lanes located past Factory Shoals Road for over 4 hours while law enforcement investigated the scene of the crash.  This forced commuters to go off of Interstate 20 at Riverside Parkway.

Per the local police the victim’s sports utility vehicle slammed into an 18-wheeler early in the morning.  The 18-wheeler kept exited onto Thornton Road to turn around and come back to the accident scene.  

“The driver of the [sports utility vehicle] exited the vehicle and attempted to cross I-20,” a Cobb police spokeswoman said. “He was struck by an unknown vehicle and then several additional vehicles.” 

The driver of the sports utility vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  He has been identified as a 29-year-old man from Douglasville.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as a 38-year-old man from Montgomery, Alabama, did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Traffic began flowing normally right before 7 a.m. however, delays remains in both directions at the Douglas-Cobb county line, per the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. 

There are a variety of different parties that include the truck driver, the trucking company, the parts manufacturer, or laborer that may be held responsible for a trucking accident.  A trucking company may be held liable if they did not maintain a truck owned or lease by them.  Moreover, if a trucking company forced a driver to exceed hours of service regulations or hired truckers who did not have enough training and experience.
