Florida Trucker Involved in Multi-Vehicle Wreck on I-74 in Indiana

VERMILLION COUNTY, IN. – According to an online news story reported at, a Florida truck driver was involved in a multi-vehicle wreck that occurred on Interstate 74 in Vermillion County, Indiana. Four people sustained serious injuries in the accident, according to the report.* 

The accident happened during the afternoon near mile marker 1 on I-74. The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office and report that a tractor-trailer was approaching slowed traffic on the interstate and failed to slow down in response. The tractor-trailer rear-ended a car and set off a chain reaction of crashes that involved five vehicles in total. 

Authorities say that a car, a pickup truck, an SUV, and another tractor-trailer were involved in the collision. It is not clear at this time what caused the initial rear-end collision or why the driver of the first tractor-trailer did not slow down for traffic. reports that the driver of the car and two minor passengers in the car were injured and taken to Carle Hospital for treatment. Their injuries were described as life-threatening. The driver was identified as an 18-year-old man from State Line, Indiana. 

The driver of the SUV, identified as a 60-year-old woman from Indianapolis, Indiana, was also injured and taken to Carle Hospital. Her injuries were also said to be life-threatening. It does not appear that any passengers were in her vehicle. 

It is not clear if the driver of the pickup truck or the drivers of the two tractor-trailers were injured. They were identified as a 44-year-old man from Union, Kentucky, a 53-year-old man from Peoria, Indiana, and a 59-year-old man from Edgewater, Florida, respectively. No passengers were listed as being in these vehicles. 

Authorities are still investigating the accident, and they had not released further information at the time that the news report was published online.
