Man Injured in Pool Furniture Accident in Bradenton, Florida
BRADENTON, FL. – According to a news story reported online at wctv.tv, a man was injured in a pool furniture accident that happened at his home in Bradenton, Florida. The man was moving some furniture on his patio, when a gust of wind caused a freak accident that nearly cost him his life, the report says.*
The accident is one the man will not soon forget. He was out on his patio, trying to move a lounger from the pool area, and a large gust of wind blew him into the water of the pool. The lounge chair moved with him, and a leg on the chair ended up piercing the man’s neck. The man told reporters he was shocked by what had happened.
“I was stunned,” he said. “I’d been lifted off my feet by this wind. And when I came up, my jaw hurt, and I went to go touch my jaw. The laceration missed my carotid artery by two centimeters.”
The man said he knew how lucky he was even to be alive, and doctors say that he will make a complete recovery. He has been stitched up and is on a regimen of antibiotics to prevent infection, as the chair leg was rusted metal. He also received a tetanus shot as a precaution.
“I have a couple of guardian angels looking over me,” he said. “That’s, in fact, what the ER doctors said, too.”
The man said he is still not sure how the incident happened. He said there is potentially a “sail effect” or “funnel effect” in the narrow area by his patio, and he thinks that’s how the wind became strong enough to knock him off his feet. He plans on getting rid of the lounge chair and replacing the other chairs he has with plastic, he said.
