Two Seriously Injured in Boating Accident in Pasadena, Florida

PASADENA, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, two people were seriously injured in a boating accident that occurred in Pasadena, Florida. The local sheriff’s office is in charge of the case, and the accident is being investigated as potentially being related to alcohol consumption, according to the news report.*

The accident happened in the evening near the Intracoastal Waterway in south Pasadena. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and Patch report that at approximately 6 p.m., five people were on board a 1999 Hewes boat. The person operating the boat reportedly attempted to turn the 19-foot watercraft to the west, and the boat ended up striking a seawall. 

The collision happened in the 8000 block of Sailboat Key Boulevard. Deputies say that two people riding on the boat were ejected during the impact, and Patch reports that both sustained injuries in the accident. They were identified as a 23-year-old woman from St. Petersburg, Florida, and a 29-year-old woman from St. Petersburg. 

A third person was not ejected but was also injured, according to the report. This person was identified as a 30-year-old man from Treasure Island, Florida. The man and the 29-year-old woman were taken to Bayfront Health with serious injuries. It is not clear if the 23-year-old woman was seriously injured or taken to a hospital. Patch reports that the driver of the boat, identified as a 24-year-old man from Orlando, Florida, and one other passenger, identified as a 25-year-old man from Pinellas Park, Florida, were not injured in the accident. 

Authorities are still investigating, and Patch reports that they believe speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. Patch states that charges against the driver are pending following a toxicology analysis. Those charges are anticipated to be related to boating under the influence, according to the report.
