Florida Trucker Involved in Fatal Semi-Truck Accident on I-10 Near Grosse Tete, Louisiana

GROSSE TETE, LA. – According to an online news report published at, a Florida trucker was involved in a fatal semi-truck accident that occurred on Interstate 10 near Grosse Tete, Louisiana. The accident involved four semi-trucks and resulted in the tragic death of a man from Texas, according to the news report.* 

The accident happened on the westbound side of the interstate not far outside of Grosse Tete. Louisiana State Police and KLFY report that two semi-trucks were involved in an accident on I-10 West and stopped their rigs in the shoulder following the collision. Details regarding this initial collision were not included in the report, so it is not clear how it happened.

As the two semi-trucks were stopped in the shoulder, a 2014 Freightliner semi-truck that was traveling west ran into the back of a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck in front of it, then crashed into the two semi-trucks that were stopped in the shoulder. It is not yet clear what caused the driver of the 2014 Freightliner to rear-end the 2018 Freightliner. 

KLFY reports that the driver of one of the stopped semi-trucks was tragically killed in the collision. The news report said that he had been standing outside his truck when the second accident occurred, and he was struck by one of the vehicles. He was identified in the report as an 82-year-old man from Caldwell, Texas. 

KLFY reports that the drivers of the other three semi-trucks were injured in the accident, and their injuries varied from minor to moderate. The driver of the 2014 Freightliner was identified as a 35-year-old man from Sebring, Florida. The other drivers were not identified in the report. 

Louisiana State Police are handling the investigation of this case. Officers do not believe at this time that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
