July 28, 2019

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – According to online news reports at wsmv.com and newschannel5.com, two fatal accidents are currently being investigated that occurred earlier this week.  Interstate 24 was shut down during the night as emergency personnel worked the scene of the accident.*

Two deadly accidents occur, the first of which involved a commercial vehicle and a pedestrian.  The accident occurred on Interstate 24 going west close to mile marker 71.  The Tennessee Highway Patrol indicates that a second accident involving a Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) vehicle happened in the same area where the first crash occurred.  In the first accident, a 64-year-old woman died.  A preliminary investigation of the accident reveals that the 64-year-old was walking along the edge of Interstate 24 where she stepped into a lane of the interstate and right in the path of traffic.  A commercial vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the woman.

Another victim involved in the TDOT vehicle crash immediately following was also killed in the incident and has not yet been identified.

Due to the accidents, Interstate 24 was shut down as emergency personnel worked the scene.
