Head-On Vehicle Accident Reported on Bells Hwy in Colleton County, South Carolina

COLLETON COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story reported online at, a head-on vehicle accident was reported on Bells Highway in Colleton County, South Carolina. The accident reportedly resulted in injuries to one person, who had been driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash.* 

The collision took place sometime in the afternoon near Confederate Highway and Bells Highway in Colleton County. South Carolina Highway Patrol and News 2 report that a Ford Taurus was traveling on Bells Highway, while a GMC pickup truck (model not reported) was traveling on the highway in the same direction. 

At some point in the roadway, one of the vehicles reportedly crossed over the centerline of the highway and struck the other vehicle head-on. It is not clear which of the vehicles departed from its lane of travel, and the news report did not say what led to the vehicle traveling into traffic bound in the opposite direction. No potential explanations for the collision were provided in the news report.

News 2 reports that the driver of the GMC sustained injuries and was taken to Colleton County Medical Center. The report said that the medical transport was so that the driver could be evaluated, and the extent of any injuries was not reported. This driver was not identified. 

News 2 further reports that the driver of the Ford was not injured in the accident. This driver was also not identified. It is unclear if passengers were riding in either of the vehicles. 

Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the wreck. Emergency crews were at the scene of the collision for several hours, according to the news report, to clear the area and control traffic. South Carolina Highway Patrol will be handling the investigation. Troopers have not yet said whether they anticipate charges in the case.
