Multi-Vehicle Wreck Shuts Down Stretch of I-77 in Charlotte, North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC. – According to an online news report posted at, a multi-vehicle wreck shut down a stretch of Interstate 77 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The accident reportedly resulted in injuries to six people. The injured persons have not been identified, and authorities are working to determine how the crash happened.* 

The accident happened during the afternoon close to the exit to Tyvola Road on I-77. The Charlotte Fire Department and WBTV report that several vehicles were somehow involved in an accident in the area on the southbound side of the interstate. It is not clear how many vehicles were involved in the crash or what types of vehicles were involved. 

The news report does not say why the accident occurred or how the vehicles collided. It is unclear if one or more drivers could have been at fault. Investigators did not immediately say what factors they might be considering as having played a role in the collision. 

WBTV reports that six people involved in the accident sustained injuries. This was based on information provided by Mecklenburg EMS. The report says that three of the people had non-life threatening injuries, and the three other people had serious injuries. The six injured people were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their current medical conditions have not been reported. 

None of the people injured was identified in the report. The report also indicates that it was not clear how many people were involved in the crash or if additional injuries were sustained.

I-77 South was closed down following the accident, beginning at Tyvola Road. It is unclear how long the interstate was blocked. Authorities were working at the scene during this time and urged drivers to use caution in the area. Police are still investigating the wreck and have not released further information.
