State Trooper in Critical Condition After Hit-and-Run in Charlotte, North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC. – According to an online news report posted at, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper is in critical condition following a hit-and-run collision that happened in Charlotte, North Carolina. The details of the accident have not been fully disclosed, but authorities are asking for people who have information about the incident to come forward.* 

The accident happened in the morning as a North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper was attempting to perform a traffic stop in Charlotte. In the course of the stop, the Trooper was struck by a motor vehicle, and the driver of that vehicle fled the scene. Officials say that the Trooper, a 14-year member of the motorcycle unit with Highway Patrol, sustained critical injuries in the collision. Officials say that the Trooper is still hospitalized.

It is not clear from the report how the accident happened or where it occurred. No street or neighborhood was provided as a location for the collision. As of the time that the Fox Carolina report was posted online, the driver of the vehicle was still at-large. Authorities say he or she was in a Toyota Avalon model from the late 1990s. Authorities have a picture of the vehicle, but the color of the vehicle is difficult to discern. No description of the suspect was provided. 

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and North Carolina State Highway Patrol are looking to make an arrest in the case and are urging anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600. Tips can be called into Crime Stoppers or submitted online anonymously. 

Authorities said that the incident served as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day on the job. Troopers asked for the community to keep the victim, his family, and Highway Patrol members in their prayers.
