AUGUSTA, GA. – According to a news story reported online at wfxg.com, a motorcyclist was tragically killed in a vehicle crash that happened on Greene Street in Augusta, Georgia. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident, which reportedly involved the motorcycle colliding with another vehicle, then crashing into a tree.*
The collision occurred in the late afternoon close to 12th Street on Greene Street in downtown Augusta. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, and WFXG report that at approximately 3 p.m., a motorcycle was traveling on Greene Street, approaching 12th Street. At the intersection of the two roadways, the motorcycle somehow crashed into an SUV. After impact, the motorcyclist reportedly lost control and struck a tree off the side of the roadway.
The makes and models of both the SUV and the motorcycle were not included in the report. It is not clear how the crash took place or what led to the crash. The news report did not say what direction the two vehicles were traveling or whether the crash involved a left turn or some other type of maneuver by one of the vehicles. Authorities did not immediately provide information about who had the right-of-way at the intersection before the crash took place.
WFXG reports that the motorcyclist was fatally injured and tragically died at the scene of the collision. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as a 22-year-old man from Evans, Georgia. It does not appear any passengers were on the motorcycle at the time of the accident.
The driver of the SUV was not identified, and the news report does not say whether he or she sustained any injuries in the wreck. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the county coroner’s office are still in the process of reviewing the case.
