Teenager and Grandmother Tragically Die in DUI Crash in Broward County, Florida
BROWARD, FL – According to an online news report at miamiherald.com, a drunk driver with a tainted driving record caused a four-vehicle crash that killed a teenager and her grandmother.*
A drunk driver with a tainted driving record killed a teenager and her grandmother in a DUI-related accident. The driver is a 21-year-old woman who caused the tragic accident. Back in March, the 21-year-old woman was driving a Dodge Avenger going eastbound on Hillsboro Boulevard. She somehow lost control of her vehicle, went over the center median and drove head-on into oncoming traffic, per local deputies.
The woman collided into three vehicles: A Hyundai Sonata, a Chrysler 200 and a Nissan Altima.
A 17-year-old was driving the Altima, who was accompanied by her mother, aged 40, and her grandmother, aged 61, from Plantation, Florida. The 17-year-old and her 61-year-old grandmother died at the scene of the accident. The drunk driver, a woman and another driver from Coconut Creek were transported to a local hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A driver of a third vehicle sustained minor injuries and refused to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Pursuant to a preliminary investigation of the accident, it appears that the 21-year-old driver was going at an excessive rate of speed and was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The impaired driver is now facing six counts of DUI with damage to person or property, two counts of DUI manslaughter, possession of Xanax and violation of probation. She is currently being held in the county jail.
Prior to the accident, the impaired driver’s record evinces a trend of disregarding the rules of the road. She received a ticket for driving with a suspended license. She again was ticketed for this infraction. She has paid a total of $1,196.05 in traffic violations for the past 3 years.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
