Sevierville Cement Truck Accident Leaves One Person Dead and Another Injured
ORANGE BEACH, ALABAMA – According to an online news article published by www.wkrg.com, an 11-year-old girl is in critical condition following a watercraft accident near Bear Point.*
The Alabama Law Enforcement Marina Patrol is currently investigating a watercraft accident that left one man with minor injuries and an 11-year-old girl with critical injuries. The accident happened near Bear Point and involved a family on vacation from Tennessee. Reports indicate that the Tennessee family rented 6 WaveRunners, two of which were involved in a collision. A 16-year-old was operating one of the WaveRunners when he/she tried to “spray” another WaveRunner operated by a father and his 11-year-old daughter.
In an attempt to “spray” the WaveRunner operated by the father, the 16-year-old ultimately collided with the father’s WaveRunner. The father sustained minor injuries to his arm, and the 11-year-old girl was critically injured. Neither the 16-year-old nor his/her 9-year old passenger sustained any injuries in the watercraft accident.
First responders on the scene performed CPR on the 11-year-old girl, who was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. The latest reports indicate that the 11-year-old girl was not likely to survive but that she was still “hanging on.” The girl’s current condition is unknown.
The Dangers of Watercraft Accidents
Car accidents are a fact of life, happening every day in Alabama. However, many watercraft accidents are overlooked as they do not happen as frequently. Watercraft accidents can be just as serious or even more serious than car accidents. While drivers are required to have licenses to get behind the wheel of a car, individuals are not required to have any specific license to operate most watercraft, such as a WaveRunner or other jet ski.
Additionally, many people underestimate the power of water and how injuries sustained in or on the water can be catastrophic. As such, those who wish to enjoy themselves on any type of watercraft should be cautious and understand that an accident can happen at any moment that may lead to severe injuries or death.
