Two-Vehicle Collision Tragically Kills One on U.S. 501 in Horry County, South Carolina
HORRY COUNTY, SC. – According to a news report posted online at myrtlebeachonline.com, a two-vehicle collision that occurred on U.S. Highway 501 in Horry County, South Carolina, resulted in the tragic death of one person. The accident is still in the process of being investigated, and it is unclear if any charges will be filed in the case.*
The accident occurred late in the morning close to West Nobles Road on U.S. Highway 501. South Carolina Highway Patrol and Myrtle Beach Online report that at around 11:30 a.m., a Toyota pickup truck (model not reported) was traveling on U.S. 501, when a Ford SUV (model not reported) attempted to travel across the highway. It is not clear what direction each of the vehicles was traveling at the time.
Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of South Carolina Highway Patrol said as the Ford SUV was crossing U.S. 501, it crashed into the Toyota pickup truck. After impact, the Toyota turned over. It is not clear at this time what led to the crash or why the vehicles collided. Authorities are still trying to determine what factors might have been involved in the accident.
Myrtle Beach Online reports that the driver of the Toyota was ejected during the crash, and he tragically died from his injuries. The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as a 26-year-old man. His city of residence was not included in the identifying information released by the coroner’s office.
The driver of the Ford was not identified in the report, and it is not clear if he or she sustained any injuries. No passengers were reported to have been in either vehicle. South Carolina Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation, and no additional information had been released by Troopers at the time the Myrtle Beach Online news report was published.
