Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Occurs on Main Street in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina
FUQUAY-VARINA, NC. – According to a news report posted online at wral.com, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred on Main Street in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. After the accident, the driver who hit the pedestrian fled the scene, and WRAL reports that police officers made an arrest in the case later the same day.*
The accident happened during the early morning in the 2900 block of North Main Street, near the Inline Auto Sales location. The Fuquay-Varina Police Department received a call regarding a person lying in the roadway at about 5 a.m., and officers arrived at the scene to find that a pedestrian had apparently been struck by a vehicle.
The vehicle and the driver were no longer at the scene, according to police. It is not clear how the accident happened, and the report did not say whether any witnesses were able to provide officers with information about what occurred.
WRAL reports that the pedestrian tragically died at the scene. He was identified as a 17-year-old male from Fuquay-Varina. It is not clear why he was out walking at the time or where he was headed.
Investigating officers found debris from the car at the scene, including the mirror for the passenger’s side of the car. Based on the debris, officers were able to come up with a probable description of the vehicle and believed it was a silver sedan. Less than five hours after the accident, officers found the vehicle they believed to have been involved in the accident located in the parking lot of a Walmart on East Broad Street.
A few hours later on the same day, police arrested a 37-year-old man from Garner, North Carolina, in connection with the fatal collision. WRAL reports he has been charged with felony hit-and-run and is being held in the Wake County Jail.
