Multi-Vehicle Wreck Occurs on I-85 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina

CABARRUS COUNTY, NC. – According to a news report published online at, a multi-vehicle wreck occurred on Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Detailed information about the crash has not been reported by authorities, but it appeared that some people were injured in the accident.* 

The collision happened in the afternoon near Exit 60 at Dale Earnhardt Boulevard on Interstate 85. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and WSOC report that at about 2:30 p.m., several vehicles were involved in some kind of collision on the northbound side of the interstate. It is not clear how many vehicles were involved in the accident, but WSOC said its news crew counted five vehicles at the scene. That count was not confirmed by authorities. 

The makes and models of the vehicles were not reported, so it is unclear what kinds of vehicles collided. Investigators at the scene did not say how the accident took place or what might have caused it to occur. No potential factors leading to the collision were reported. 

WSOC stated that it was unknown how many people were injured. Its news crew said that a medical helicopter was called to the scene, apparently to transport an injured person to a hospital. The extent of injuries sustained was not reported, and no one involved in the accident was identified. The report did not say how many people were riding in the vehicles. 

North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Cabarrus County will be handling the accident investigation. At the time that the news report was posted, no additional information about the crash or the investigation had been released to the public. 

An image of the accident scene posted to the WSOC website shows backed up traffic resulting from the accident. The northbound side of the interstate was closed down until about 7 p.m.
