Tractor-Trailer Crashes into Van on Hwy 115 in White County, Georgia
WHITE COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported at whitecountynews.net, a tractor-trailer crashed into a van on Georgia Highway 115 in White County, Georgia. The accident resulted in the tragic death of one person, according to the news report, and Georgia State Patrol Troopers are investigating the circumstances of the collision.*
The accident happened close to the intersection with Dorsey Dock Road on Highway 115. Georgia State Patrol and White County News report that a 2007 Freightliner was traveling west on the highway while pulling a trailer 53 feet in length. The tractor-trailer then approached backed up traffic on the highway, which was apparently the result of a prior vehicle collision. The details of this collision were not included in the report.
Troopers say that when the tractor-trailer reached the traffic, the driver slammed on the brakes in order to avoid rear-ending another vehicle. The sudden braking caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife, according to authorities, and the rig ended up spinning and traveling into the eastbound lane of the highway. Upon entering eastbound traffic, the tractor-trailer crashed nearly head-on into a 2001 GMC Savanna van.
White County News reports that the driver of the GMC sustained fatal injuries and tragically died at the scene of the accident. Officials said she was a 65-year-old woman from Tavares, Florida. It does not appear that any passengers were with her in the GMC when the crash took place.
White County News further reports that the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash. The news report identified him as a 46-year-old man from Cleveland, Georgia. Troopers said that charges were pending the outcome of their investigation, which is still ongoing.
The crash resulted in a closure of Highway 115 from Dorsey Dock Road to Lothridge Road. The closure lasted about six hours.
