Woman Tragically Killed in Jet Ski Crash in Hall County, Georgia

HALL COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report posted at, a woman was tragically killed in a jet ski crash that occurred on Lake Lanier in Hall County, Georgia. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is investigating, and officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident.*

The accident happened in the afternoon close to Van Pugh Park on Lake Lanier. Authorities and WSB-TV report that at approximately 2:30 p.m., a woman was riding on a jet ski in the area and was traveling at a high rate of speed. It is not clear how fast she was going. The woman then somehow crashed into the shoreline and was thrown off the jet ski.

WSB-TV states that bystanders went into the water and pulled the woman back to the shore. Responders to the scene included the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Hall County Fire Department. WSB-TV reports paramedics took the woman to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia, where she tragically died from her injuries. 

The victim was identified as a 20-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, Georgia. It is unclear if she was alone or at the lake with other people. It does not appear that anyone was riding on the jet ski with her when the crash happened. No one else was identified or reported to have been injured. 

The Department of Natural Resources will continue investigating the accident. At the time of the news report’s posting online, officials had not indicated what might have caused the woman to crash.

According to WSB-TV, the tragedy is the 12th fatality to occur at Lake Lanier in 2019. A 30-year-old father and his 9-year-old child tragically died after an apparent drowning incident at Lanier Island in July. This incident is also under investigation by the Department of Natural Resources.
