Biker Tragically Killed by DUI Driver in Sandy Springs, Georgia
SANDY SPRINGS, GA – According to an online news report at wsbtv.com, a community is mourning after a Sandy Springs man was struck and killed by an impaired driver as he was biking to work. The accident occurred early in the morning on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, Georgia.*
A man, aged 29, was struck and killed by a drunk driver as he was driving to work to a nearby Starbucks. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene and is now facing charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and driving without a license.
The man’s wife is devastated over the loss of her husband. "He was better than good, he was the best," the wife said while crying. "There will never be anyone like him again."
The husband and wife met at a music festival back in 2012. The victim was from the Netherlands and decided to go home following the festival. "When it was time to go home, we were really sad and we decided we'd see each other again," the wife said. As a result, the victim came back to the United States to see his future wife again. They both moved to Atlanta and eventually got married.
The wife indicated that her husband worked at a Starbucks in Sandy Springs as he was attempting to graduate college with two degrees paid for by Starbucks. She indicated that his goal was to become a professor.
Earlier this week, co-workers of the deceased man came together to comfort the wife and each other. The store was actually closed to allow employees to grieve.
"It's not just me who lost somebody, not just my mom or Marten's parents, or his brother," the wife said. "It's all of Sandy Springs who lost a smiling face in the morning. And they won't get it back."
As for the accident, due to the impact, the victim’s bicycle was broken in half.
The woman who hit the victim had a prior DUI charge as wells reckless driving charges. She is currently in jail. The accident remains under investigation at this time. There are no further details on the accident at this time.
