Driver Crashes into Road Ranger on I-4 in Lakeland, Florida
LAKELAND, FL. – According to an online news report published at wftv.com, a driver crashed into a Road Ranger on Interstate 4 in Lakeland, Florida. WFTV reports that one person was tragically killed in the accident, and two others were injured. The collision is still under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.*
The collision happened in the afternoon outside of Lakeland on I-4. No exit or mile marker was provided as a location of the accident. Florida Highway Patrol and WFTV state that a Road Ranger was parked in the shoulder of the interstate and was providing assistance to a motorist with a disabled sedan. The sedan was also parked in the shoulder.
For unknown reasons, a minivan traveling on the interstate veered into the shoulder and struck the back of the Road Ranger’s pickup truck. The truck was then forced into the sedan during the impact. Troopers were not immediately able to say why the accident happened or what events might have led to the van driver traveling off the roadway.
WFTV reports that the driver of the van was tragically killed in the accident. He was identified as a 72-year-old man from Florida. WFTV further reports that the passenger in the van, identified as the driver’s wife, was injured in the collision and taken to a local hospital. Her injuries are said to be critical.
According to WFTV, the Road Ranger also sustained injuries in the accident and was treated. The Road Ranger was not identified. The report indicated that the motorist whom the Road Ranger had been helping did not appear to be injured.
