Two-Vehicle Accident Occurs on E. Ninth Street in Lehigh Acres, Florida
LEHIGH ACRES, FL. – According to an online news report posted at news-press.com, a two-vehicle accident occurred on East Ninth Street in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Preliminary investigation has led Florida Highway Patrol to believe that one of the vehicles did not stop at a stop sign, which ended up causing the crash.*
The accident happened in the afternoon at the intersection of Richmond Avenue North and East Ninth Street. Florida Highway Patrol and News-Press report that a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Richmond Avenue, while a 2013 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Ninth Street. Both vehicles were approaching the intersection.
At the intersection, the Dodge had a stop sign, but Troopers say the driver failed to stop. Both vehicles then proceeded into the intersection, at which time the front of the Chevy crashed into the driver’s side of the Dodge. Upon impact, the Dodge traveled off the roadway and overturned.
News-Press reports that the driver of the Dodge was seriously injured in the crash, and emergency crews took him to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officials identified him as a man from Lehigh Acres. His age was not reported. He is said to be in critical condition.
New-Press further reports that the driver of the Chevy was also injured, though his injuries were described as minor. He was identified as a 52-year-old man from Fort Myers, Florida. It does not appear that any passengers were in either vehicle when the accident occurred.
Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, and Troopers had not released additional information at the time of the News-Press report.
