Pedestrian Accident on I-516 in Savannah, Georgia, Results in Serious Injuries
SAVANNAH, GA. – According to a news story reported online at wsav.com, a pedestrian accident that occurred on Interstate 516 in Savannah, Georgia, resulted in serious injuries to one person. The Traffic Investigation Unit of the Savannah Police Department is investigating the collision, and officials have identified the people involved.*
The accident happened late in the evening near mile marker 6 on I-516. The Savannah Police Department and WSAV report that a pedestrian was walking on the southbound side of the interstate in the middle of the left lane of travel. It is not clear why the pedestrian was walking on the interstate or why he was walking in the middle of a lane.
Police say that at about 11 p.m., a Honda Accord that was traveling south struck the pedestrian on the interstate. The collision happened between mile marker 6 and mile marker 7, according to officers. The circumstances of the accident have not yet been fully reported.
WSAV reports that the pedestrian sustained injuries in the accident, and emergency responders took him to Memorial Medical Center. He was identified as a 42-year-old man from Chester Township, Pennsylvania. His injuries were said to be serious.
The driver of the Honda was identified as a 36-year-old woman from Savannah. The report did not say whether she was injured or whether she was alone in the vehicle.
Officers are still completing their investigation of the accident, and at the time of the WSAV report’s posting online, no additional information was reported to the public.
