60 Year Old Man From Chapel Hill Died after Attempting to Cross the Street

CHAPEL HILL, NC – According to an online news report from, a man attempting to cross the street close to the Timberlyne Shopping Center died as a result of his injuries.*

A man attempting to cross the street close to the Timberlyne Shopping Center died due to the impact of the crash.  The man was trying to cross Westminster Drive towards the 86 North apartment complex where he lived.  The accident occurred late last week, per the Chapel Hill police report.  The man, aged 60, perished at the UNC Hospitals, according to a police spokesperson.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the man was a male who became blinded due to sunlight when he struck the man as he was going eastbound on Westminster Drive, as provided in the accident report. The driver did not attempt to stop prior to the collision.  The male driver, aged 22, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.  The male pedestrian was not crossing in a crosswalk at the time when he was hit by the twenty two year old man’s vehicle.  

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
