Pedestrian Injured in Vehicle Collision on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC. – According to a news report posted online at, a pedestrian was injured in a collision with a vehicle on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. The pedestrian has not been identified, nor has the driver of the vehicle, and investigation into the accident is ongoing.*

The collision took place late in the evening on Palmetto Bay Road, near Sea Pines Circle. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and The Island Packet report that shortly before 11 p.m., a vehicle ran into a pedestrian in the area of Sea Pines Circle and Enmark on Palmetto Bay. The collision reportedly happened on the eastbound side of the roadway.

It is unclear if the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road or was walking along the road, and the report did not say if the pedestrian had the right-of-way at the time. The vehicle involved was not described. Investigators responding to the accident did not provide detailed information regarding the events of the crash.

The Island Packet reports that the pedestrian was injured in the accident, and he or she had to be airlifted to a hospital in the area, according to the sheriff’s office. The pedestrian’s identifying information was not reported. His or her injuries was described as “significant.”

The driver of the vehicle was also not identified. It is unclear if he or she was injured. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office indicated that South Carolina Highway Patrol would be taking the lead on the investigation, which is still in progress. No further information was included in the report.
