Truck Driver Tragically Killed in Train Collision on U.S. 341 in Dodge County, Georgia

July 09, 2019

DODGE COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report published at 41nbc.com, a truck driver was tragically killed in a train collision on U.S. Highway 341 in Dodge County, Georgia. A train somehow collided with a semi-truck at a rail crossing, and several agencies have launched investigations into the incident.*

The accident occurred in the afternoon at the rail tracks on U.S. 341 in Dodge. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and 41 NBC report that on July 4th, at about 2 p.m., a semi-truck was traveling away from a timber yard in the area of Chauncey, Georgia, and came to the rail crossing on the highway. The truck traveled onto the tracks at the same time that a train was coming. The train then crashed into the trailer on the rig.

It is not clear at this time why the truck driver traveled onto the tracks while a train was approaching. The story did not say whether the crossing was controlled with flashing lights or a crossing gate, and investigators did not say whether they knew if the driver was aware of the train before entering the tracks.

41 NBC reports that the truck driver was transported by medical helicopter to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he tragically died. He was identified as a 23-year-old man from Eastman, Georgia.

41 NBC further reports that the conductor on the train and the engineer also sustained injuries in the accident. They were not identified in the report. Their injuries were believed to be non-life threatening. The report did not say whether the train was carrying any passengers.
