College Student Tragically Dies After Trailer Accident in Raleigh, North Carolina

RALEIGH, NC. – According to a news story reported online at cbs17.com, a college student tragically died after being involved in a trailer accident in Raleigh, North Carolina. The student was reportedly working at a summer landscaping job and was struck while helping to load a trailer attached to a pickup truck.*

The accident happened in Chapel Hill, while the 21-year-old man was working with Bland Landscaping Company as part of a summer job during his break from college classes. The man, who has been confirmed to have been a student at Greensboro College, was standing in between a trailer and the truck it was hitched to and was helping to load debris into the trailer. 

According to the North Carolina Department of Labor, the worker inside the pickup truck drove forward without knowing that the man was standing between the truck and trailer. CBS 17 reports that the man then became trapped between the two and sustained severe injuries to his leg and pelvis. CBS 17 states that the man was taken to UNC-Chapel Hill, and he tragically died while he was in surgery. 

The North Carolina Department of Labor is investigating the accident and is reportedly speaking with employees of the landscaping company and reviewing company policies and records. The driver of the truck was not identified. 

The department indicated that the company might face penalties if a violation occurred, but the investigation would determine whether that happened. The investigation could take several months to complete, according to the North Carolina Department of Labor.
