Two Motorcyclists Tragically Killed in Flagler County, Florida, Traffic Collision

July 06, 2019

FLAGLER COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story posted online at wctv.tv, two motorcyclists were tragically killed in a collision on State Road A1A in Flagler County, Florida. It appears the accident might have been due to one of the motorcycles trying to pass traffic in an opposite lane of travel.*

The accident happened north of Daytona Beach on State Road A1A. Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan reported in a statement that a motorcycle was traveling on the roadway and tried to pass slow traffic by traveling in the opposite lane. The motorcycle then collided head-on with another motorcycle that was headed in the other direction.

WCTV reports that both motorcyclists sustained fatal injuries and tragically died at the scene. Their identities have not been released by officials at this time, but the report described them as a 65-year-old man and a 70-year-old man. The 70-year-old man was the motorcyclist who was passing traffic.

The report did not indicate that any passengers were on the motorcycles and did not list any other injuries. Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, and at the time of the WCTV report’s publishing online, no further details had been released to the media by investigating Troopers.

According to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association, Florida leads the country in the number of fatal motorcycle accidents that happen each year. In 2017, 504 motorcyclists were killed in traffic accidents in Florida. While this represented a 12 percent decline for the state from the year prior, it was by far the highest fatality total of all U.S. states.
