Suspect Fleeing Officers Causes Vehicle Crash on State Road 60 in Plant City, Florida

July 07, 2019

PLANT CITY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at wfla.com, a suspect fleeing from officers caused a vehicle wreck on State Road 60 in Plant City, Florida. The news report indicates that a woman and two children were injured in the accident, and the suspect is facing criminal charges.*

The incident occurred during the late morning and began with a call to police about possible shots fired. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s responded to the call shortly before noon, and deputies went to a home in Plant City, where they found that no gun had been fired. For reasons not yet known, a man fled from deputies at the scene, driving away in a silver sedan.

The vehicle nearly ran head-on into a sheriff’s office patrol vehicle, according to the news report, and the driver kept going. With deputies following, the man ran through an intersection at State Road 60 and Smith Ryals Road and crashed into a gold sedan. It is not clear from the news report why the man fled from deputies.

WFLA reports that three passengers were inside the silver sedan with the suspect, including a woman and two children, and all three were injured. The woman, who was not identified, was airlifted from the scene to a hospital. The children, ages 6 and 3, were transported by ambulance to Tampa General. Current medical conditions were not reported.

WFLA further reports that the suspect driver and the unidentified driver of the gold sedan were not seriously injured. WFLA states that the suspect, identified as a 27-year-old man from Lithia, Florida, was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing.
